FAQs..?
And I'm back to missing devlogs again... Okay so I didn't work on HeartRuin much, because I was resting.
So I decided to make Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)... Or actually its more like:
We don't actually have any FAQs so I decided to make up some of these Questions which might be Frequently Asked:
1. Is HeartRuin an open world game?
No. The "chose your path" is more of the choices you make along the story, just like "your actions have consequences". This game already big enough in scope, if we would make it open world it would be much harder to make the story, and the game. And again, the scope of the game is pretty huge on it's own, especially considering this is our first professional, I personally made a good amount of small projects but this still a huge step up. Basically: No, this is not an open world game, the scope would be to large.
2. What will be the price of HeartRuin?
Free... Probably. Indie devs usually price their games somewhat low, from about 5 to 15 dollars. But they do it because they need to pay for necessity so that they could survive. Luckily we don't feel the pressured to need to get money from this game and this is just a passion project! But making a game is a long process. Right now I think this game can take from somewhere around a year to two years. And the pricing will probably be free if we do this on time, (if nothing unexpected happens,) (We MIGHT allow donations if you really want to spend money supporting us). However if this game will take much longer to make than we expect than we might need this as a commercial game and not just a passion project. But I still think this will stay a free game even if it will take longer to make than I expect, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share this passion project for free. Basically: The game will probably be free unless it takes to long to make and then we might have to make it priced (you also MIGHT be able to donate if you really want to spend money on supporting us), but hopefully not, and I am grateful for this opportunity!
3. Why the name HeartRuin?
Well, my friend who is working with me on the game @BergerBun came up with this name because it sounded cool and we needed a name. But then turns out we actually need to make the title relevant to the game. So we added a Heart which is Ruined to the story and then made it the central point of the game. Yeah okay, this looks weird but it actually worked out better. (We were in the early development/planning phase, we literally came up with the basic idea and story in only half an hour, we needed to add onto it anyways. Basically: @BergerBun came up with the name HeartRuin when we were choosing a name for the game.
4. Will there be any Teasers/Trailers?
Yes there will probably be a few teasers for the game and a demo trailer, both around the demo's release. And then probably a few more along the games development and near full release. Basically: Probably yes.
5. What's up with the itch.io page(s)?
So this page, which I started first is on my personal itch.io account, this is where I'm publishing all my devlogs and where the demo will probably be published. Now I think the full game should be published on a team account, but we don't have one yet. We haven't even revealed our team name yet. (And if it's not yet clear I am not the only one working on the game.) So yeah the demo and the devlogs will probably stay on this page, (I think they both or at least the devlogs should stay on this page to give it some purpose.) Basically: The devlogs and the demo (at least the devlogs) are probably going to be on this page on my personal account but the full release is probably going to go on the team page once we create it and reveal the name.
6. When are you planning to release the game?
Hopefully we can get the demo out in 2 or 3 months, but that's only when we finish the core mechanics and Chapter 1 (side note: the demo will probably feature a lot of things that will change at the release of the game, it might be completely different, or maybe it will stay completely the same or somewhere in the middle). Also you'll probably will lose your progress from the demo). As for the full version I hope that we can release it in about a year, but judging by the scope of the game and the rate the development is going it might actually be somewhere 1 and a half to 2 years. Needles to say the scope of the game went up a lot. But who knows, maybe it will release much earlier or much later. Basically: I think demo can be finished in 2 or 3 months featuring an early version of the game's core mechanics and Chapter 1. And I also think that the game can fully come out in a 1 year, 1 and a half, or 2. (Non of these dates are final.)
I was planning to work on the game today but somehow spent half of it writing this devlog, I hope I can at least get some work done. As a general update I started collecting most of the game assets. This is because HeartRuin doesn't have a color pallet, but I don't want to add extra colors where I don't need them, so I'll just put the colors I already have into a color pallet, and then use them instead of adding new colors, but if I don't have a color I need, then I can add a new color. (Edit: I also think I'll just keep using that concept art I drew with the logo as the cover because it looks cool.)
Also I realized that I have being giving these devlogs the Game Design tag which turns out is a Long - form discussion tag, which I'm pretty sure my devlogs aren't. Except for maybe this one but these are FAQs, kind of... Anyways I need to go fix that, work on the game, and a lot of other tasks. Wait I got to do the line! So yeah!!!!!!!!!!!
